A visit to Chartwell House

Chartwell House
A fascinating and inspiring visit to Chartwell House (the family home and garden of Sir Winston Churchill) yesterday.

Highlights (apart from being able to relax with my lovely Helen) were

  1. The amazing Guy Huntrods (a ninety-something year old guide in ‘the study’) who shared personal experience and connected items in the room with moments in history – it was a privilege to hear some of his stories!
  2. The incredibly peaceful atmosphere in the dining room and drawing room
  3. This quote from Abraham Lincoln that was on display in the house and strangely resonated with me,

“If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what’s said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference.”

With years of experience playing bass in a wide range of situations a dear friend once said that if you were to cut me in half you'd find the word 'bass' written all the way through - yes I know that's so cliche - but that doesn't make it any less true! Like so many people I have more than one 'day' job - but most of my work-time these days is spent working for Interconnected Solutions.
